The aspirant choir

Nidaros Cathedral Boys Choir cooperates with Trondheim Municipal School of Music and Culture for the education and training of aspirants to the concert choir. The aspirant period usually lasts for two years and gives the boys a solid foundation of music reading, choir song and vocal technique.

The aspirant choir performs several times during these two years, alone or with the concert choir. They have participated at special events in Trondheim, such as the Christmas concert with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the jubilee concert when Trondheim Municipal School of Music and Culture celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Every spring the choir invites applications among all boys in 2nd and 3rd grade in primary schools in Trondheim. Aspirant registration takes place in May and the education is adapted to the regular school year.

The boys are divided in groups and have 45 minutes lessons twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The school fee amounts to NKR 800 per semester. The teachers for the aspirant choir are the vocal teachers Bjørn Sigurd Skjelbred and Kristina Olsen Smidt. Both can be contacted through the music school, tel. 72 54 66 71.
